Babywearing in the Winter

Babywearing in the Winter - A Little Bit of All of It

Unfortunately Ergobaby is no longer selling this coat. I still have decided to put up this review as reference for those who purchased them in the past. At the time of publishing this article, there is one lightweight papoose coat available through Amazon.

I’ve seen a lot of chatter in the babywearing groups I’m in about winter babywearing. How do you keep your baby warm while wearing them in the winter months? One option is this babywearing papoose coat I got to try from Ergobaby. You can see my video review of it below.

I really like mine! I have the winter version but they have a lightweight one for the spring/fall months as well. It keeps me nice and warm as well as my son. Perfect!

It is fully functional as a coat even when you don’t happen to be babywearing which means it isn’t an investment in something you will only use short term either. It comes with a faux fur collar that is detachable, is a navy blue with a purplish interior that I really like. It gives it a fun splash of color. 🙂 The collar makes it look more suitable, to me anyway, for the colder days so I like that I can easily take it on and off. For wearing sans baby, it closes with buttons. I’ll also add that Lori purchased this coat and is able to wear it as a maternity coat as well which makes it even MORE useful.

For wearing over your baby on front, it’s really simple. You just put the coat on and then zip it up over baby. There is room for your baby’s head to come out so once you put a hat on your child, they are pretty much covered except their face so they are well protected from the elements. I love, too, Babywearing in the Winter - A Little Bit of All of Itthat there is a panel like part that you put behind the baby so your neck and throat are still covered by the coat but not covering your baby, if that makes sense.

For backwearing, you can use the coat as well! It’s slightly trickier but I got it after practicing in a mirror 2 or 3 times. If you have someone with you, it is even easier since they can help adjust it for you but it’s definitely doable by yourself, too. It’s hard to describe but you can watch it on my video above or take a look at the instructional pdf to see it spelled out. I will mention that I did not have the yoke part tucked in correctly in the video. I just forgot to do that. 🙂

Babywearing in the Winter - A Little Bit of All of ItI wear this coat all the time! While babywearing, it is fantastic of course but I wear it a lot even when I’m not babywearing. It’s really great for keeping Jude warm when getting him out of the car and inside somewhere because I can just open it up and hold him inside of it. I love that since, of course, he is not wearing a coat while strapped in his car seat and this way I don’t have to fiddle with trying to get him in his coat while we are freezing! I just wrap him up in my coat that is large enough to accommodated him while not being bulky for me once I am not using it to warm him, too.

Disclosure: I received no compensation for this post but did receive a complimentary babywearing coat for the purpose of this review. I was not required to give a positive review and all opinions are 100% my own. I only review products that I either have purchased myself and love or products I have been given a chance to review by the company that I believe are products my readers would benefit from.
