Reusable Options for the Grocery Store

No question about it, going grocery shopping sure does rack up the waste. One way to make a small difference is to be mindful of the products we are purchasing and try to find ways to buy the things we want or need with minimal or no packaging. Another way is to forgo the bags for toting home our purchases. (Some links below are affiliate links.)

I had those cheap, flimsy bags you can get most everywhere these days and those will certainly do the job. However, they were a pain to remember and when I had them in the car (so I wouldn’t forget them) they took up a lot of room and looked untidy. When I had the chance, I finally bought some Flip & Tumble bags and haven’t looked back!

20130628-212557.jpgFlip & Tumble bags are really nice for several reasons. My favorite feature is that they roll up into a little ball and can be stored that way. It is brilliant. They are tiny and easily will fit in your purse or glove box. You can also get and little drawstring pouch to tote them in (which was what I did) which keeps all those little balls together easily. They come in bright, vibrant colors and have a small felted padded area for where they rest on your shoulder. I love this since I always felt the other bags dug into my shoulder and that was not ideal. Another huge asset is their ability to hold a lot of weight. I had the other bags I had break more than once and what a hassle when that happened. You would be hard pressed to break the straps on the Flip & Tumble bags. I’m guessing it isn’t even possible but don’t quote me on that. 😉 According to their website, the Flip & Tumble bags and can hold 35+ lbs.20130628-212605.jpg20130628-212615.jpg

Another wasteful practice is the produce bags you use in the grocery store, especially if you fill your cart with mostly vegetables and fruits. Flip & Tumble also has reusable produce bags, and I was delighted to have the opportunity to try them out. The bags are 12″x14″ and will easily accommodate any produce purchase you need to make. They are a mesh like see through material with a colorful tag and a drawstring. I throw them in my little storage pouch along with my other bags for my grocery store trips. I love that they are machine washable as well since sometimes I leave my produce a little too long (i.e. I forget they are there) and fruit or vegetables go bad. Cashiers have complemented these nifty bags, too so don’t worry about upsetting their process. 🙂

Flip & Tumble has some mini bags, as well as these super nifty felt pods for plants (seriously, check them out!), some spiffy wall hooks (called Hooknooks) and even some unique felt flowers.

Disclosure: I received no compensation for this post. I purchased the Flip & Tumble bags myself but did receive produce bags from Flip & Tumble for the purpose of this review. I was not required to give a positive review and all opinions are 100% my own. I only review products that I either have purchased myself and love or products I have been given a chance to review by the company that I believe are products my readers would benefit from.
