Final Thoughts on the Six Ingredient Challenge

Six Ingredient Challenge buttonTry the Six Ingredient Challenge hosted by Hobo Mama and Anktangle!

We’ve completed a six-week path to eat more whole foods, guided by one simple rule: Buy foods with six ingredients or fewer. And we’re blogging about our journey on the way.

This week we’re answering the question: What are your final thoughts and reflections as we wrap up this challenge?

Do you have any newfound wisdom to share?

You can see all the responses to this question on March 21 at the link-up post.

I wish I’d done a better job at this challenge, but just because I didn’t follow it perfectly doesn’t mean I did not benefit from it. I guess that in itself was a big lesson for me. I tend to not want to do something unless I can do it perfectly which means there is a lot on my to-do list that never gets done.

In being a part of this challenge I also have gotten our family back to eating at home much more and back to making more things from scratch which has been a goal of mine since we temporarily veered off track towards more convenience foods after Jude was born. We’ve actually been better at sticking to our grocery budget as well which is actually kind of interesting.

I don’t plan to stop. I will continue to be more aware and more conscious about our food choices and I’m looking forward to the return of the Farmer’s Market downtown on Saturdays to meet the people we are buying food from. I’m looking forward to growing some of our own produce again as well and lots of delicious summer salads.

And this post would not be complete without mentioning all of the wonderful things we learned in our Dr. Sears L.E.A.N. Start classes. That really was another big catalyst to my looking closer at how we were eating. We learned so much really practical, helpful things about food and our bodies. I highly suggest it to get a better idea of what you should be eating and for the tools to make those changes in your family.
