Babywearing Mama Profile – Jess

Each week I’ll be introducing you to a babywearing mama (or papa!) during A Little Bit of All of It’s Babywearing Series. Find out more about this mama at the end of the post.

When did you start wearing your baby/young child?  I didn’t really start babywearing until I had my second child in March of 2012. My first carrier was a Moby, and I just recently got rid of it for a woven. I still love it; it just found a better home.

What is your favorite carrier? I haven’t owned many carriers but due to having a great group of friends, i’ve gotten to feel and try quite a few. I’m torn on this however. My favorite for a front carry is the GMBB Hope. But my favorite for a back carry is the Infantino Mei Tai.

What is your favorite carry? My favorite carry has to be the front wrap cross carry. It works for both my toddler, who is over 25 lbs, and my infant who is about 18 lbs.

How did you first learn about Babywearing and what were your initial impressions of it? I have a good family friend who had her daughter right before I got pregnant. She was all about carrying her baby, and the only thing I thought at the time was, she can still use her hands! I knew once I had my second little one I had to use it, although I wish I would have carried her from the beginning as well.

How many carriers do you own and what are they? I own 4 carriers right now:
DIY- Handmade Woven Gauze Wrap (Made by me) Size B Equivalent
GMBB Hope Size B
Infantino Mei Tai
Moby in Chocolate, (although I’m in process of selling this one)

Do you have a favorite babywearing story/scenario? We went to a family party while my son was only 3-4 months old. I had him in my Moby and by the end of the party I had taken it off, and shown 4 different moms how to use it with both my infant, and for fun we put the toddler in there as people were saying, “You can’t carry a kid that big in one.” I knew I couldn’t carry her in the Moby for too long, but I showed them how it could be done.

What is the strangest or funniest thing you’ve done while wearing your baby? I wait until Elijah, my son, falls asleep in the carrier and then I use that time to paint my toenails and pull weeds.

What is your favorite thing about wearing your baby? He still feels close and gets the contact, and I can still interact with my toddler, as well as get things done around the house
