The Five Year Old

It’s hard to believe but my little girl turned five last month! We went all out and she had three birthday parties! I thought I would be remiss if I didn’t share some of our celebrations.

It all started the Thursday before her birthday with a fun day with my best friend who was in town from NY. My friend and her mom met us at the Riverbanks Zoo. It was a nice warm day thankfully and we had fun seeing lots of animals and birds, riding on the train and eating ice cream.

Friday was the day before her birthday and her first birthday party. We booked O-Cha Tea Bar for the event and were incredibly pleased with our experience. They seriously did an amazing job! It is one of Marcella and my favorite places to go so I thought it would be the perfect spot for a unique birthday party for my special girl.

Marcella requested for her guests to dress up (she loves dress up play!) and a treasure hunt. The kids were served fruit and cream dip, hummus with veggies and pita wedges, and cheese and crackers. They also got to sample four different bubble teas and Marcella got to choose which four flavors would be sampled. Next was the treasure hunt complete with prizes for everyone courtesy of O-Cha and then back to O-Cha for cake and presents.

Marcella was lucky enough to have a super cool happy birthday banner for her party from Lucy Locket Creations. I picked out the different colored fabric for a rainbow effect for my rainbow loving girl. The banner spells out Happy Birthday in hand painted letters and looks awesome! We’ll be using it for years to come! I’ve talked about Lucy Locket Creations before since we have many wonderful items from the shop like our fun dragon/dinosaur tail, fabric numbers and math symbols, baby carrier bags, as well as an insanely cute moon and stars mobile. If you’d like your own birthday banner, or really any kind of banner (a child’s name, happy anniversary, really anything!), hop on over to the Lucy Locket Creations Facebook page. Like the page and comment and when they reach 300 fans, they will draw a winner! Of course, you can always just buy one from the shop. You’ll be able to choose your colors and what you want it to say just like I did.

On her actual birthday the next day we went to have her favorite breakfast, a blueberry bagel with cream cheese at Brueggers. Then we headed to the store to pick up ingredients for her birthday dinner, a quick trip home to drop the groceries off and then it was time to head to her favorite library (the downtown location) for a Lollipops Concert with friends. We had planned to eat at home for lunch but ended up at Pita House instead. That night we had my parents over for chicken pot pie and cantaloupe and honeydew per Marcella’s request. She opened more presents, including this tea set (affiliate link) that both kids adore from Nanny and Pappy, and we ate brownies and ice cream for dessert.

The next weekend was her last party with Josh’s family. His parents came from out of town and his cousin and wife came over as well. She requested hot dogs, baked beans and macaroni and cheese. She also wanted to make cut out cookies and decorate them with Grandma. Josh ordered some mini cupcakes from Gigi’s as well. Of course, MORE presents were opened by the birthday girl as well. She has had a blast with her Calico Critters Supermarket (affiliate link) from Grandma and Grandpa.

We sure do love our sweet five year old! It has gone by so quickly!
