Babywearing Mama Profile – Morgan

Each week I’ll be introducing you to a babywearing mama (or papa!) during A Little Bit of All of It’s Babywearing Series. Find out more about this mama at the end of the post. (You can be included in a future post by filling out the Babywearing Profile form.)

When did you start wearing your baby/young child? As a newborn, at 2 days old. Around the house I wrapped him up in my little Moby wrap. I LOVED that wrap and still do. It was so easy to use. My little guy was determined from birth to do things his way and wanted to see the world so the Moby didn’t last us more than 4 months.

What is your favorite carrier? This is really a tough one. I LOVE them all. At this time, I’ll say the ring sling, because it’s the easiest to get on and off fast. Also, I think my son likes it the best. It is SO easy to put on, get him in and out super-fast. He likes to be on my hip so he can rest his head on my chest and snuggle. I cannot tell you the amount of comments I get from this sling.

What is your favorite carry? The hip carry, it’s the easiest on my back.

How did you first learn about Babywearing and what were your initial impressions of it? My parents used an old time carrier, the Snuggli, back from 1982. They offered to give it to me which was sweet, but it just didn’t look right. I started researching and came across I Love Natural Baby’s baby wearing group in downtown Greenville. My eyes were opened to the new and improved carriers and I wanted in.

How many carriers do you own and what are they? I currently own 5 carriers/wraps: Moby, Maya Ring Sling, Ergo, Eden Mai Tei, and my newest joy is a woven wrap which I am excited to learn how to use. Starting out, all I knew was Moby, but my world has been opened to the MANY different ways to carry and enjoy the bond. My husband uses the Ergo; you must love daddy baby wearing.

Do you have a favorite babywearing story/scenario? Too many to list. Now that my son is almost 8 months and crawling all over, I can’t watch him 24/7. So, when I try to clean the house, he’s on my back in my mei tei and away we go! He LOVES it and even falls asleep there because he is close to me. I love the people at the store who see me in my ring sling or mei tei who are like “WOW, I wish they had that when I had my children.” I smile knowing these wraps were around, just not mainstream. I hope to bring awareness to baby wearing and all of the wonderful benefits.
20120921-003211.jpgWhat is the strangest or funniest thing you’ve done while wearing your baby? Not that I’ve done, but my son stole an item from a store while on my back in a mei tei. I had to run it back into the store, ha ha. Those little hands are reaching out now, and I didn’t feel anything.

What is your favorite thing about wearing your baby? Being close to him. When Liam was a week old, we invested in an Ergo. My husband (Mario) felt it was the manliest carrier out there. I am glad, because now, it’s my go-to carrier when I need Liam to nap and he won’t leave my side. He will sleep through me dancing to music while I clean, wash dishes, and vacuum. I hardly ever use a stroller, because I LOVE the close feeling having my son near me. I know he feels safe and happy and that’s the place he wants to be; up high next to Mommy and Daddy. He lets me know plenty of times when he wants down now that he is just about to start walking, but I’m glad he still loves me to wear him. I hope we can go long term.

20120921-003234.jpg Morgan is the proud first time mom of baby Liam, 9 months old this week. She’s been married for 3 years this October. Liam was a wonderful surprise that has brightened up her world. She knew from day one she wanted the utmost best for her son. She wanted him to be the happiest little boy alive. From research, she learned all about babywearing. Her mom offered her a 30 year old Snuggly. She thought it was so sweet of her, but knew there had to be something better for her little guy. She started babywearing the day they got home.
