Support a Couple Adopting!

I hope you have been enjoying all of the posts so far in the Adoption Series! Today’s post is going to give you a way to support a couple in the process of adopting a child from South Korea.

Brad and Katie Searls have always had the desire to adopt. Last year, on Christmas Day, they excitedly began the adoption process. On May 14th, they accepted the referral of an 8-month-old baby girl from Seoul, Korea who was diagnosed with PKU (Phenylketonuria). If you read the post yesterday, Adoption Q & A, you saw that South Korea is one of the most expensive countries to adopt from. Because of this, some friends of the Searls have gotten together and are putting on a Fundraiser to help with the couples’ adoption fees.

In addition to selling used items (like you would find at a garage sale), they will be selling items from local artists and food vendors. A silent auction will take place (one of the items will be a gift certificate to Trio) as well as the opportunity for a mini photo shoot on site by Jodi Byrnes Photography!

If you’re local and would like to attend, you can find information about how to get there on the Facebook invite, or click on the graphic near the top of this post. It is August 6th (this Saturday!) from 9am-5pm.

If you aren’t local, however, you can still help out! An iPad 2 is being raffled as well. You can buy tickets ($5 a ticket) at the event or online via Paypal on the Searls website. (It’s on the left hand sidebar.)

Below is a list of the artisans who will be a the Fundraiser:

If you’d like to read more about the Searls Adoption Journey, you can read more at their blog, Digging to China, and stops along the way. You can read about how they started out on Christmas Day 2010 with the process to adopt a baby from China (still in progress) and the details about their baby from Korea. I’ll also be sharing more from Katie in a future post.
