My Little Batgirl

My husband loves Halloween. It’s definitely one of his favorite holidays. We have really enjoyed picking out our daughter’s Halloween costume the last couple years and dressing up as a family together. Her first year she went as the Cowardly Lion from the Wizard of Oz and I went as the Tin Man while my husband dressed up as the Scarecrow. We were able to get all of the costumes used at a store here in town so the quality wasn’t the greatest and I had to have my friend alter Marcella’s to fit her.

Last year Marcella was the cutest little Slimer from Ghostbusters (she even glowed in the dark!) and dad was a Ghostbuster while I dressed as the receptionist. We got my husband’s costume from the same place used, pieced mine together with some stuff I already had and by purchasing a couple accessories (wig, glasses and leopard-print coat). Marcella’s we got handmade from Etsy by submitting an Alchemy request. We loved her costume and it was custom made but, even though I submitted measurements, the size of the hood/hat/head was too small so I had to get a couple of my aunts to fix it to fit her properly.

While we enjoyed our last couple Halloween’s very much, I’ll admit getting the costume was kind of stressful. We searched for a long time both years to find exactly what we wanted and still ended up having to spend more than we would have liked while not being 100% satisfied with the costumes.

We like to start our search early so we have plenty of time to find what we really want without having to settle (and spend a ton of money) on something else at the last minute. This year is no different. 🙂 Since this is really my husband’s favorite holiday, I let him pick her costume (with my input, of course ;)) especially since we like to dress up together. He can make sure there is a corresponding costume to hers that he is willing to wear this way, too.

We had a blast perusing the Wholesale Halloween Costumes website this past month and we were blown away by the prices. I have spent A LOT more on used costumes that I had to fix than a lot of the costumes on the site. Since we all dress up, we weren’t just looking at Halloween costumes for kids but the adult costumes as well. The site is easy to navigate and I really appreciated the option on the sidebar to further filter your search results by gender, costume type and/or size. That was REALLY helpful. There is a nice variety which made it hard to settle on just one for our daughter! We did finally pick the Batgirl Toddler Costume for her. We haven’t been able to settle on one for each of us yet, but we still have some time. 🙂 Our plan is for us each to dress as a superhero as well, and there are plenty of options on the site to choose from.

We got Marcella’s costume in the mail and were excited to look it over. Of course, we wanted to try it on her right away! It comes packaged just like I have seen at the expensive Halloween stores (for a fraction of the price, though). It was so nice to take it out and see a really nicely constructed new product since we have had used costumes before. The other costumes I have bought in the past have been really cheaply made and I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one so I was pleasantly surprised that the material didn’t feel like it was going to fall apart after one use.

I put the mask on first and Marcella liked it and kept roaring and saying she was a lion (no idea why!) The mask is stretchy elastic covered with soft material with velcro to secure it. Since it was stretchy, it fit well and I won’t have to worry about it being too loose and falling off while trick-or-treating. The body of the suit and cape are one piece, with the cape attached to the body part if that makes sense. What a great idea for a toddler! No extra piece that can fall off means one less thing for me to worry about. I can totally see my daughter pulling that off and on otherwise. The glovelets were big on her (the costume is a one size fits 2T – 4T), but they fit well enough that we can definitely use them without altering them. The boot covering/leg covers fit well and didn’t drag on the floor. It looks like it would still work if she was taller as the foot covers almost touch the floor on her. The only thing I noticed later was, after storing the belt next to the black in the bag, it did  bleed some on the belt but now that I know, I’ll just be sure to keep the black pieces separate (which is how it was packaged originally.)

Because the price is so great on so many of the other costumes on the site as well, I am thinking of buying more to use throughout the year for dress up play. I know Marcella really enjoyed trying on the costume and would have a blast with an assortment to play with. They have so many fun, cute ones for boys and girls. I’d love to see her in some of the others!

I’m so excited I found this site and only wish I had found it sooner. We plan on ordering our costumes sometime in the next month and after seeing our toddler’s costume, I really looking forward to seeing the adult ones! Now, we just need to choose one!

Do you love dressing up for Halloween, too? What have been some fun costumes your or your kids have worn?
